India has no shortage of manufacturers. The hard part is telling which ones can hold a tolerance, ship on time, and pass an audit. Here is how to find and qualify them.

India does not have a shortage of manufacturers. It has the opposite problem.

Search "CNC machined parts manufacturer India" and you will find tens of thousands of listings across IndiaMART, TradeIndia, and Alibaba, plus a long tail of workshops with no web presence at all. Finding companies was never the hard part. The hard part is telling which ones can actually hold a tolerance, ship on time, and pass an audit from a customer they have never met in person.

  • Delivers on the promised date, repeatedly

Write your definition down as a scorecard before you contact anyone. It stops you falling for a slick website or a low number.

Where most buyers start, and why it is not enough

Almost everyone begins in the same three places.

Directories. IndiaMART and TradeIndia are the Yellow Pages of Indian manufacturing, with Alibaba and GlobalSources alongside them. They are useful for building a long list and useless for telling you who is good. Listings are self reported, reviews are thin, and a polished profile tells you a company can afford a subscription, nothing more.

Google. Searching "Indian precision machined parts supplier" or "sheet metal fabrication India supplier" surfaces the shops that invested in SEO, which correlates weakly, if at all, with the shops that invested in metrology equipment.

Trade shows. IMTEX in Bengaluru, or a hall at a big international engineering fair, puts you in front of real people. Better signal, but expensive, infrequent, and still only a starting filter.

None of these are wrong. They are the top of the funnel. The reliability question gets answered in the steps that come after the shortlist, not in how you built it.

How to qualify a supplier in India, step by step

This is the part that actually separates reliable from risky. Treat it as a sequence and do not skip ahead.

1. Write the specification and the standard first

Before a single email goes out, lock your drawing, tolerances, material grade, finish, inspection requirements, and the standards you will hold the supplier to. Vague RFQs attract vague suppliers. A tight spec immediately filters out shops that cannot or will not meet it, and it gives you something concrete to audit against later.

2. Shortlist against certifications, not promises

4. Run a factory audit
